New Work - The Half Moon Blacksmith

This one has been floating round in my head for a bit now. It turned out to be a closer view of his shop than I expected. I have found something interesting happening as I do this series and wonder if other artists experience this?

When you write fiction, as you move along in the story the characters seem to take on a life of their own. They will literally wake you up to tell you something and refuse to do other things. My sister has confirmed this experience in writing - but.... I can't say that I had had this happen with my art. So... this little town I have been creating little shop by little shop has done just that. I now have shop keepers clamoring to have me produce theirs! I do love my muse!! So here is the latest "Half Moon Blacksmith" and as you giggle at the name, clearly this fellow has a nice enough backside to keep his pants up. Honestly - it didn't strike me until after I wrote the name. LOL he's not a plumber.

PS. Don't forget to enter my contest! Have a great Saturday everyone.

Sarah, I love this series so much and I think that your description of how you are being guided to build the "business district" is most interesting. I love that we are "guided" in creating things, whatever our art. Have you given any further consideration to laying out the entire street when you are finished? Maybe after you finish the commercial district, you could begin building the residential district of this city/town/village???

Hope that all is calm and well and in your home. Love to you.

p.s. I can't get to your give-away section, is the link working for others? I click on the picture and it goes to a 'check the address' link. Maybe it's just my computer...

I think it goes the same with non-fiction as well. As a non-fiction writer, I found that when I write my books it takes a road within its own path. All the thoughts I had and all the ideas I came up with always seem to go into a different path.

With writing as well as art, we learn as we go along, we become inspired as we create, and in the end we end up with something totally different than what we started with.

YOU are an amazing artist.

Very nice!
Quite often my creations start out as one thing but I am 'steered' towards another as the piece progresses. Much like writing. It's always an adventure to see where I end up. :0)

What a great idea to do all these shopkeepers and so appropriate for your work! Kind of like the Dicken's Village scenes...this is so cool!! To be that creative...sigh...total envy here.

I also want to add a HUGE thank you for posting the giveaway on your side bar. You are an ABSOLUTE sweetheart through and through!

The title gave me a giggle, especially as I know a blacksmith guilty of drooping trousers! Thankfully he's not my blacksmith, otherwise I would be forced to comment :)

Hi Sarah,

Ooh, yummy half moon blacksmith of yours :D You're so right about the characters wanting to do their own things. It happens all the time in my writing and sometimes I wonder who is actually writing the story? Maybe afterall, I'm the ghostwriter for my characters. :)
