Busy Week at School....

So..we had a fun week..still a bit of tie dye waiting to be done..but mostly done. This is one of my favorite weeks of the summer. We learn about using 100% cotton and what it is. Why the color sticks to cotton but not to other fabrics. Why we use soda ash to open up the Cotton to accept the dye. We also talk alot about color combos and what putting them together makes. Lots of experimenting with color and being messy!! Whoo hoo love being messy. I usually have dye up to my elbows by the end of the week. The kids fingers- yeah tend to be a bit purple too.
Our basic supplies....

My very favorite dye medium. Nice rich colors and very inexpensive to use. I use Soda Ash too - also cheap.

My new bandanna....loove it!!

So...you can only tie dye so long before we need a break. It was such a lovely day we decided to stay outside. Of course this led to more science stuff. Do you remember doing this as a kid?? Magnifying glass and a dried leaf...make smoke and fire - whoo hoo. We only had older kiddos yesterday..so we decided to play with light a bit. Strict instructions never to do this without an adult (have good kiddos)...and NEVER fry a critter..period.

Very serious stuff....

It's smokin'..

Here is Nonni giving it a try...

Lots of discussion about fire safety & what materials will burn.

Giggle..Fox and Razzi decided to burn a smiley face into this paper.

Very fun week!!! Hope you are having some summer fun too!!! Namaste, Sarah

That looks like great fun. My nephew is fourteen now but we used to have to do the magnifying glass thing too and look at bugs but no frying them at my house either!

Oh My Goddess! Sarah!! Your son's eyes? Oh, those eyes... stunning. And, start now...you must teach him to like women, not just love them. You must teach him to respect the Divine Feminine...because as he grows, those eyes? He will be able to have more tail than a lounge chair...and if he doesn't learn to respect it, he'll be Human enough to bathe in it and leave a trail of heartbreak in his wake!

He's beautiful. Already. Oh, both of these children in the picture are beautiful.

I want you to be my teacher!!!

Yes those eyes..killer. Now you know how I fell for Jim - Fox is a mini me of his Dad..Jim is just bigger and filled out..yup like that too.
We are hard at work making sure Fox has respect and a clear understanding that his MAMA will kill him if he doesn't treat the girls right - the 4 sisters don't hurt either - lol.

Yes Sarah, I would love the link to your supplier. I was going to buy some from Dharma Trading Co., but I'm one to shop around for price comparisons :D
Thank you!

Thank you so much for the link and the tips! As for starting the schooling blog...personally, I think that would be awesome. There are a lot of communities out for homeschoolers. My little guy and eldest is only 2 1/2 years old, so we're just basically venturing and I guess "trying on" what we feel would work for our family. I would love to read about your homeschooling experiences as I'm sure many other mom's would be also. I say "Go for it!". You'll be surprised at how much community and support you'll find. Best wishes!
