Quilting Bee #38

Good morning all! Thank you for popping in today..the fire is on..but for all of you snow weary folks..it's pretty warm outside here. Strangely so!! Yesterday..I kid you not, I opened all the windows in the cabin and let it air out a bit..for a couple of hours! Maybe we will have more snow next week. For now just Springlike rain.

I don't know about you, but I clearly overindulged over the holidays..my pants are not at all happy with me. So today I am offering up some light fare for us to nibble. Kona coffee of course and any kind of tea you can think of. I have some wonderful fruit, cut melon, starfruit, navel oranges, and berries..oh the berries. There is vanilla yogurt and peach too. I have even set out some delicious low fat granola..wonderful on top of the yogurt and berries. Thank you for joining me today. I love it when you come by and add your thoughts!

I have laid out lots of fabric today..not a stitch on it yet..all laid out and ready for us to bring it to life. Let us choose some colors for the very first quilt of the year!

I was thinking about the coming bright new year! Do you look ahead about what you want to get done, what you have coming in February, what classes you are taking, art you are creating, what is coming up. I don't know about you but I am feeling a bit overwhelmed already!! I woke at 4 am with my mind racing about all the things that need to be done today. ACKKKKKKKK!! What to do??

Well..very unlike me..I went back to sleep. It took some Reiki and deep breathing..but I did. Truly..I didn't need to be up at 4 am..5:30 would be just fine. When I got up I took a lovely unrushed shower and then made Nonni breakfast..not a rushed bowl of cereal, a real breakfast. Made coffee and came to visit with you. Oh it felt good..really good. Calm and my head is clear..I feel present and balanced. I am smiling and looking forward to the day ahead. Bright, clear colors!

Here is the challenge..staying there!! Staying present. My mind wants to jump ahead and get up hyped up about all that we have to accomplish and clean and write and create and knit and cook and...see what I mean...pant, pant, pant. I think of all the things I have learned about in the last year..it seems staying present has been one of the biggest themes. Also one of the things I muffed regularly this last year. I was also not my best at staying balanced in my life..that was all doodleywonked too. Which honestly is very related to being present..when I am out of balance there is no possible way to stay present. Rushing tends to make for crooked stitches.

Many of you have been choosing a word for you year. Something that resonates with you. I have been reading about this all year too. So this year..my word will be balance. I will endeavor to stay balanced in all the many aspects of my life. I need to calm my head down and breathe and remember that being present makes it all work better. Balanced..yes I like that. I want my quilt will have balanced colors.

Do you have a word for the year? Would you share it with us & why you choose it? What colors of fabric will you choose for the very first quilt of the year?

I think I will have a skinny coffee and a bowl of fruit...mmmmmmmmmm! What can I get you? Thank you so very much for joining me today. I look forward to a bright new year of Quilting bees with you!
Namaste, Sarah

My chance to wish you a Happy New Year and to tell you that I am looking forward to being with you throughout the year and learning from you as I do.

Yours is a friendship and a blog that I will always spend a great deal of time just sitting with and Being.

My word would be perseverance -–noun 1. steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., esp. in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.
2. Theology. continuance in a state of grace to the end, leading to eternal salvation

My colors would be all sunny colors.

Love ya quacker xoxoxoxo

Hello Sarah! My word for this year has to be fun! I have forgotten my smile at times and looking back i feel foolish and silly as it is a sorry face to have. I had forgotten about the fun, the silly side of life sometimes through the year, letting thoughts over take me.I was no fun. 2010 is my year to proclaim my fun back!
I know you can find balance Sarah, you have amazing inspirational goings on, you will find space for them all!I can not wait to delve into the new year with you! Life can be quite exciting and new at these times! You just do not know where life can take you next!Oh a wee bit scary too! My colours would be gold with hues of ink to represent the sun in the cold sky today. Hugs to you dear friend!!

I love your choice of word, Sarah, and wish that I could use it too, but I just posted on my blog yesterday, that Patience is my word that is most profound to me this year.

Maybe with Patience, Balance will come. I can hope and dream! :-)

I'd almost look forward to be out of balance so I could use the word 'doodelywonked'...love it!

Seriously, balance is key, breathing is key, being present ensures you will do the previous two.

Love Mon. mornings with you....even if I only arrived tonight - was thrown off balance - really doodelywonked - by the death of a friend. Thank you for your kind comment.

LOL doodelywonked, I think that fits me....

Sarah, I admire your balance, I don't know how you keep so together. I look at all of the things you create, the many places you guide, the hearts you touch, the children you nurture, and so much more. You inspire me, now if you could just get me to go clean the bathroom, lol. Thank you for keeping me grounded!! My quilt would have to be bright fabrics, sunny and cheerful no matter what the weather is outside.

((Hugs))

Oh, my pants feel too tight, too. I am ready to be more disciplined this year in many areas of my life.

Hmmm, my word will have to be courage. Er, more courage. Courage to reach for what I want and need. Yes, balance will fit in there, too. Good word. But I'll need courage to find my balance. :p) Hugs, Honey!

Mmmmmm I'll take the Vanilla yoguar with berries and coffee!
I love the fabrics all lined up like that. I would choose purple, lavender, sage green and white. :)
One word? For me it would be Acceptance. things going on that I need to accept without trying to control. Balance is a good one too!
Hugs
